War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.

consulting
During the past ten years, I have supplemented my income by providing IT consultation services for individuals and small businesses.
I have experience building and maintaining networks, writing custom
software, and designing/maintaining web sites. I consider myself a "what
works" guy (thanks to my friend James for this terminology): I'm not wed to
one particular operating system - I choose the best solution given the
parameters of each situation I encounter. As such, I have experience with
both Microsoft Windows and a variety of Linux flavors.
I am sometimes
asked about qualifications, so let me be specific and upfront: I have none.
No, seriously. I have none. I have no certifications or formal training.
I've never even taken an introductory course in computer science. What I do
have, however, is a long history (over 15 years) of working with technology.
I taught myself the ins and outs of IT systems the old-fashioned way: by
taking stuff apart and figuring out how it works.
If you want a
detailed description of the projects I've headed up and/or been involved
with, feel free to let me know. Aside from that (and in an effort to avoid
boring people with my geeky life's story), just know this: I only charge my
clients for the amount of time it should take me to complete a
given task, and on the rare occasion that I don't know how to do something,
I can almost always find out.
My base charge is $50/hr for
individual/residential service, and $85/hr for businesses. I guarantee my
work: if you aren't satisfied, you don't pay. Feel free to contact me for a
quote.
Boo.
